Imaginarium

The idea of Surreal Landscapes arises from my interest in the forest as a physical, conceptual, and relational space. The forest is a key place of human imagination, where one gets lost to find oneself, where boundaries dissolve, and a dreamlike and mysterious space opens up.

The Batik Technique

Each scarf in the series is entirely handcrafted using the batik technique. This ancient method allows for painting silk with wax and colors, creating layered patterns that evoke the complexity of the natural landscape. The artisanal process makes each piece unique, where silk transforms into a transparent and luminous canvas, permeated by the fantastic and dystopian forms that populate my visions.

Materials and Lightness

In this collection, I used two different types of pongee silk: an ultra-thin version of 27 g/m² and a more structured one of 35 g/m². The 27 g silk offers incredible transparency and lightness, almost insubstantial, making each scarf extremely ethereal. The 35 g silk, while maintaining its delicacy, has a greater consistency, giving the scarves a more defined presence and a slightly more substantial texture. Each material expresses a different sensation, but both enhance the transparency and luminosity characteristic of silk.

Medieval Herbariums

The scarves of Surreal Landscapes are inspired by medieval herbariums, populated by fantastic leaves and plants. Through batik, these imaginary landscapes emerge from silk as nocturnal visions, with animals and plant forms floating in surreal atmospheres. Each design is a window into a world where the forest transforms into a narrative.

Roots

The inspiration behind the Surreal Landscapes collection comes from the research I have developed over the years for my other artworks, with the forest as the central theme. The forest, in all its dimensions—physical, conceptual, and symbolic—has been at the heart of my creative explorations. My artistic research has always aimed to explore the interconnection between nature and imagination, creating visions that transcend the real. With this collection, I wanted to translate that poetic universe into an object that could accompany the wearer, carrying fragments of that hidden world with it.
